The short version: the game keeps what it needs to run your account and your characters, and
nothing else. The game never asks for your email address or your real name, and there are no ads and no
tracking. If you buy a membership, the payment company handles your payment details, and the game only
learns that you paid.
Your account
- The username you picked.
- Your password, stored only as a salted hash. Nobody can read it back, including us.
- Your recovery code, also stored only as a hash.
- When the account was made, when it last logged in, and which characters belong to it.
Your characters
Each character's name and look, and everything it has done in the game: levels, items, quests, friends,
faction and where it is standing.
Chat
Chat is not saved. The server holds the last few hundred lines in memory so that a report can show what
was said, and that memory is wiped whenever the server restarts.
When someone reports a player, the report is kept together with the chat the reporter could see from the
two of them in the minutes before: public chat, whispers between the two of them, and party or
faction messages the reporter received.
Reports, mutes and bans
These are kept along with the account or character they concern, the moderator who acted, and the reason
they gave.
Membership and payments
Memberships are sold through a payment company that acts as the seller, and it is named on the checkout
page. It collects what a payment needs (your name, email address, card or PayPal details and billing
country) under its own privacy policy. The game never sees or stores your card details.
What the game keeps about a membership: which account it belongs to, the payment company's ID for the
subscription and for you as a customer, which plan it is, whether it is active, and the dates it renews
or ends. It also keeps a log of those changes, and when any free days were given and by whom.
Your internet address
The server uses it for as long as it is running, to limit how many accounts one connection can make in a
day and how fast logins can be tried. The game itself never writes it down, and no log of visits is
kept. The one exception: if a request fails, for example while the game is restarting, the web server's
error log notes the address the failed request came from.
In your browser
Your login session, your character and your settings are kept in your browser's local storage. The game
sets no cookies.
Other companies
The pages load two fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them, and Google sees
your internet address when it does. The game runs on a server rented from DigitalOcean. If you buy a
membership, you pay the payment company directly, as above. Nothing is shared with or sold to anyone
else.
Backups
Game data, accounts included, is backed up every night. A backup is kept for 14 days on the server and for
30 days on the developer's own computer, then deleted.
Deleting your data
You can delete a character yourself from the character screen. To delete your whole account, email
support@beast-frontier.com with your username and a
recovery code, so we can tell the account is yours. You can make a fresh code from the account
screen. Anything deleted still exists in backups until they age out, as above.
